Beat Your Own Drum (literally)

I recently spent several days in Las Vegas for a BIG O'L Tacky Christmas vacation.  I wanted to experiences the lights and sounds of Vegas sounded by Christmas trees and tourists.  I know that Vegas has a reputation of being freaky, skanky, perverse, and sinful; however, I must say that I did not see that side of Vegas at all.  I found it a very VERY friendly, clean, and BEAUTIFUL city!  I enjoyed my time there immensely and cannot wait to go back.  One of the highlights of my trip was witnessing a young man entertaining passerby's by drumming on old buckets, glasses, and pans.  I've seen street performers my whole life but this dude was AMAZING!  He performed with passion and professionalism as if he was on a stage charging $200 a ticket instead of playing for change on the side of the road.  I was so inspired by his performance that I recorded a brief video of his set to share on this site (above).  I also gave him $5.
The drummer dude inspired the inner dandelion in me.  He taught me to grow/bloom where I'm planted.  I cannot count the number of times I have talked myself out of something because I didn't have this/that- the above man just gathered a bunch of buckets and bottles and started drumming on the street.  I learned a huge lesson from watching the little drummer dude.  I learned that I should not sit around and wait for the perfect opportunity to use my gifts/talents, because I can seize any moment as an opportunity.  I encourage you to stop waiting on perfect and start utilizing the gifts and the moments that you have.  Beat your own drum!  -Rev. Derek

    Dandelion:

A weed/plant growing where it is not wanted; however, dandelions have dozens of beneficial medicinal uses.  This page offers inspiration to those of us who are proud dandelions- at times others may see us as unwanted, yet we understand and recognize our value and grow anyway!
